Medication can be added when lifestyle changes alone do not maintain blood pressure in normal range.

Very complex...: Hight blood pressure is a result of many factors - including, lifestyle, smoking status, genetics... What is always beneficial : read label of food and avoid extra sodium ! no salty snacks, no processed food ( nothing in box , package, can etc)! if you smoke - quit! exercise daily or walk 10 000 steps a day! drink more water ! if overweight loose weight ! avoid red meat- stick to"mediterran diet".
