Currently taking flagyl and ciprofloxacin for bv and uti. can one of the meds cause a yeast infection? if so how

Both can: Both antibiotics can kill the bacteria in the vagina and allow yeast to grow after the pH change.

Yes: Antibiotics in general can cause yeast infections by altering the microbial balance normally found in the vagina. This allows small amounts of yeast normally found in the vagina to overgrow. Ciprofloxacin and Flagyl can both cause yeast vaginitis.

WorryIfUSeeMushrooms: Any antibiotic can cause a yeast infection by altering the normal flora in the body.In the intestines diarrhea is a common result because a normal baterial balance is necessary. In the vaggy it's a itchy, messy uncomfortable yeast overgrowth with a white discharge. It's easily treated with either a pill or a cream. You can get the creams without a prescription but need to see your doctor for the pill
