A member asked:

My daughter in law went for a 33 week sonogram of her baby's heart due to a previous child's heart defect (from a previous marriage). showed enlarged heart, but all function and formation of the heart normal. should they be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Contradictory: If the baby's heart is significantly enlarged, then the formation of the heart isn't entirely normal. Perhaps her OB means that, while the baby's heart is enlarged, the structure is otherwise normal. The question of concern should be addressed with your daughter-in-law's obstetrician. Serial sonograms may be indicated to follow the development of the baby's heart.
