Fear of insanity: Fear of losing sanity is one of the prime symptoms of panic attacks. Many people with panic attacks are otherwise very rational, intelligent, hard-working people. Panic attack symptoms (sudden extreme fear; pounding heart; shortness of breath; chest pressure; dizziness; tingling extremities and face; nausea, etc) feel completely irrational. Such a clear departure from usual, can feel "crazy.".
