Pulled muscle: I agree that this sounds like a pulled muscle. Best thing to do is avoid that activity or lifting for that matter for a few days and allow this to rest and heal. I'd also apply ice pack for 15-20 minutes each hour to the sore body part. Off the shelf medication as directed on bottle may help with pain. See your family doc if pain persists for more than several days to a week.

Muscle strain: You sound as if you strained something- shoulder, elbow..etc. You could apply crushed ice in a bag to the affected area for a good 20-30 min. and do that a few times a day. Then, after a few days if it's still bothering you you can change over to hot compresses which will help the muscles and other elements a chance to rebuild a bit and strengthen up again...while the pain dissipates.
