Depends on the: stage and biochemical markers of the cancer. Consult with your surgeon or oncologist for specific details, but pathologic staging would not be available until the operation is completed and path results are available.

Breast Ca Rx: The decision of how to treat breast cancer is highly personal and individual. The choice of double mastectomy will allow for a more symmetric outcome should you choose to remain without reconstruction or choose to reconstruct. Also, mastectomy obviates the need for radiation, another plus. 5 years of an estrogen-blocker such as Tamoxifen or Arimidex (anastrozole) is standard depending on tumor receptor status.
