Yes: Originally this was intended for major depression. There are many alternatives but you need to work w/ your doctor to find a good one for you. Discuss in detail what benefits and risks each may have AND add CBT therapy to optimize any choice. It does!

Yes: While amytriptyline has some antianxiety effects, it is unusual for it to be prescribed for that purpose. There is a wide range of medications for anxiety. Which one would fit best for you -- this is a matter to be discussed with your doctor.
