It is possible, but: when one suffers from gastroenteritis, it is possible to have stool urgency so abrupt that you have incontinence of stool. Most of the time, however, one will awaken with cramping which will alert you that you need to get to the toilet immediately. Most people with normal anal sphincter tone will be able to reach the toilet before having an accident. Good luck.
