It can: If they gave you a plastic syringe to irrigate, then be good about it. Otherwise, get a waterpik. It happened to my daughter...and the surgeon did an excellent job too! It will all be ok once it heals..no worries. If it gets worse, then call the office and ask to be seen. Most likely, it will continue to improve.

Very common: Delayed healing after wisdom teeth extraction is very common.You can use warm salt water or mouthwash, good oral hygiene, and extraction site would eventually heal. Good luck!

Food entrapment: It is possible for food or other debris to get stuck in an extraction socket. It's possible that cleaning the socket will cause relief of the pain. You should ask your surgeon for advise & a syringe to keep the socket clean. If pain persists, have it evaluated by your surgeon.
