What would cause pain and numbness of the left arm and leg, swelling of the left ankle and foot, during periods only?

This is something you should take your physician. The swelling in one leg or an ankle may be related to the venous return from the lower extremity. The pain and numbness in one arm and leg could suggest a neurologic system. This is why you should take this to your physician.
