Rib cage: Sharp,shooting pains in that area of the rib cage are often due to pinching of an intercostal nerve which runs between two ribs. Another possibility is inflammation/strain of an intercostal muscle which would often be tender and affected by motion. Rest usually allows healing to take place. Less likely would be lung or heart causes.See your physician if symptoms persist or worsen.
