A member asked:

Is not there a risk of ascending bacteria when a pregnant women lose mucus plug and dont go into labor for days or weeks after?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: The barrier for protection for the baby is the amniotic sac. Should your "water beak" that would mean the sac had broken and amniotic fluid is leaking. That is when the increased risk of infection from ascending bacteria occurs if labor does not begin.
