Sure: If you are contracting five minutes apart for more than an hour then you ought to head to the hospital to be evaluated for preterm labor.

Could be: While losing the mucus plug isn't always a predictor of labor onset, the contractions may be real or false labor. Call your OB provider today and discuss it. Most OB docs/midwives have an answering service. Call the office even if closed for instructions.
