Find the cause: Repeating them when the person is off alcohol and unnecessary medications is often the best plan. If they're still up, you'll get a workup for hepatitis b and c, hemochromatosis, wilson's and maybe a few others. If you're clear of these, think about getting back into serious aerobic fitness. Best wishes.

Possible damage: Liver enzymes are found in the blood. When they go up, it generally means that there is some sort of stress or damage to the liver. It may be trivial or serious. There is a very wide range of enzyme levels between "normal" and "worrisome". The important thing is to follow the enzyme levels to see if they go higher or go back down. Talk to your doctor since there are many possible causes.

Indication of liver : Liver diseases like hepatitis cause liver enzymes to go up. So you and your doctor need to find out the cause of this hepatitis. It can be a vius infection(hep-b or hep-c) or alcohol related liver injury.

What does elevated but stable liver enzymes mean?

Dr. Dan Fisher

Slow going.: Probably means that the liver disease you have is very stable or at least progressing slowly. This could be seen with many different types of liver disease - hemochromatosis. fatty liver, chronic hepatitis, alpha 1 antitrypsin, chronic alcohol or med use, etc. Really could be just about anything
A 43-year-old member asked:

My liver enzyme is 80 what does that mean?

Which enzyme?: If it is alt or ast, then it is an indication of liver injury. If you drink, stop taking alcohol entirely in any form and redo the test in three months. Liver makes many other enzymes also. See this site for more info. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/elevated-liver-enzymes/my00508.
