Side effects : It's not uncommon for adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) to disrupt sleep. Periactin is a sedating antihistamine. Melatonin mimics natural melatonin. The optimal regimen calls for finding the right dose of stimulant with minimal side effects. Less adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) might be optimal for the child, potentially another stimulant altogether! To answer your question, I would pick melatonin, since it's natural. They both work well.

ADHD: Try the Melatonin first. I'm not sure of the availability of Periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride). All the best.

Depends on problem: If the problem is appetite suppression Periactin (cyproheptadine hydrochloride) in doses of 2-6 mg per day. If the problem is sleep initiation then melatonin would be the choice
