Bite Back If You Can: First, try not to scratch--just makes it worse and a setup for an infection. Next, cool compress. Next, topical steroid cream. You can get 1% hydrocortisone without a prescription. That should do it but if not then try Benadryl (diphenhydramine) capsules one or two every six hours but remember, it may make you drowsy and cause a dry mouth. If none of that works see a doc. And start using an insect repellant.
