Not mole: not all pigmented lesions are moles. Benign moles can not be picked at and flake. The moles are firm but benign lesions. If picked at they can bleed. Those pigmented lesions that can be picked at are often keratotic lesions representing accumulations of dried skin that has remained and not desquamated to result in a nodular lesion that over time becomes pigmented. These can be picked at.
