My 6 yr old may have the same extreme allergy to general anestesia (malignant hyperthermia) as her dad. can she have a tonsillectomy without general?

Anesthesiologist : Would answer you better, my take on your questions: tonsillectomy needs general anesthesia, and malignant hyperthermia isn't a hereditary disease

Wait- this often can be genetic. Dad, please arrange for a contracture test and be sure the anesthesiologist is aware and has dantrolene ready. Seek genetic counseling but not all genes for this are mapped out yet. Certainly agree that you should ask anesthesiologist. The late Dr. Prevoznik at Penn would have wanted me to speak up, here....

Agree with you Dr Gels, it maybe genetic, I am not the expert, hence an anesthesiologist input and preoperative consultation is definitely needed
