See below: A transvaginal transducer is, as the name implies, designed to be inserted vaginally allowing much closer access to the uterus and ovaries. The patient is positioned similarly to a pelvic exam (though usually no stirrups). The sonographer gently positions the probe and takes pictures of the uterus and ovaries. Occasionally there may be minimal discomfort, but usually only takes a few minutes.
