Is ect done at a higher intensity or duration (more shock) for inpatients that are suicidal? or is an ect session the same for all patients?

ECT - inpt v outpt: ECT intensity will not change inpt versus out patient. Essentially the "dose" used is that which is sufficient to produce seizure. There are some variations in ECT (placement, for instance) that relate more to reducing side effects than efficacy. ECT for syicidally patients should be done inpatient until they are no longer suicidal, to maintain safety! Talk with your doc about further qs & be well
