Birth control: If you are consistent with the pill for the past 5 months, there should be no reason to feel like the birth control pill will not be effective in protecting you from getting pregnant. Most OCPs are effective greater than 99% when taken appropriately. If you are talking about protection from STIs, OCPs are not a deterrent at all.

Yes: You should be protected if you have not missed pills this cycle. If you missed pills in your previous cycle and were sexually active during that cycle then there is a small possibility- the fact that you had a period makes it less likely.
