When is the baby called fetus?

9 wks until birth: In most medical circles the terminology of reproduction is well defined. From the point of conception to the end of the eighth week, a series of complex events take place that are described as the embryonic period. As the 9th week starts, the embryo has achieved a form that is recognizable as human and the term fetus is used from that point until delivery.
