HCV and HIV tests...: ...are entirely independent. Neither infection has any known effect on tests for the other one. It is extremely rare for HIV and HCV to be caught at the same time, especially in heterosexuals. Contrary to popular opinion, HCV is rarely if ever sexually transmitted between men and women.

Worse outcome: Coinfection with Hep C and HIV is worse than either infection alone. Window period is a minor issue compared to severity of disease. Window period can be addressed by nucleic acid tests rather than relying in antibodies.
