Rifampin: Antibiotics in general can interfere with effectiveness of birth control pills. Rifampin, commonly given for TB, is a special case. It speeds up the metabolism of many drugs, reducing their effectiveness. This might include birth control pills. Other antibiotics related to rifampin, such as rifalizil and rifabutin, may have the same effect. Check with your doctor(s) or your pharmacist.
