A member asked:

Why specifically should you wait at least one cycle after a m/c to try again? i've heard for easy dating/for uterine lining/for emotional health...?

Recommendations vary: depending on how far along you were.. Grieving needs to occur no matter how early the loss. The implantation site needs to heal. Another implantation in the same area might not be optimum. It may take two months before ovulation occurs after a miscarriage ( dating the next pregnancy). The stress of the miscarriage increases cortisol- not a good thing for the next pregnancy. I say wait 3 months!

Waiting: I assume you mean an uncomplicated miscarriage. Reasons include 1) your HCG level from the miscarriage must fall to zero, 2) you must resume ovulating, and 3) you must re-establish a cyclic endometrium. I recommend waiting 1 full cycle after an uncomplicated miscarriage and confirming the HCG has fallen. Many doctors recommend a longer wait, but it seems arbitrary to me after 1 cycle.
