Good nutrition, rest: Resting the limb, I am guessing it is your leg, you did not specify. Also good quality vitamins and minerals do help. I have seen fracture healing speed up with quality nutrients.

When I broke my ribs: doctors told me swimming was good for recovery as long as I was careful getting in and out of the pool and did not push myself too hard.

Fracture healing: It takes a minimum of 6 weeks for a fracture to heal. You can take Calcium with Vitamin D to give your bones what they need, but you can not speed the healing without bone growth stimulators, which are expensive and will not be covered by insurance unless 3 months of non-healing has occurred.

Some heal slowly.: For most fractures, Dr Wittenberg is correct. For a few like scaphoid wrist fractures or fifth metatarsal foot fractures, healing can take much longer. The good news is that your insurance company might ok the bone stimulator early for certain fractures. Have your doctor check with the rep from the bone stimulator company.
