It's important to know whether you have genital or oral; whether HSV type 1 or 2; whether this is your first infection or a recurrent outbreak; and more details about your symptoms. If he has no symptoms of a herpes outbreak, genital or oral, a blood test can tell if he is infected with HSV1, HSV2, both, or neither.
