Is it sudden & red?: That's the right location for gout but it's usually red, swollen, warm and starts very suddenly (reaching maximum pain in hours) then resolves completely in 3-7 days. If you think you have gout you could see your doctor.

No: Gout is usually severely painful, red and swollen and hurts at rest and with activity. Pain with walking may be due to arthritis or other joint irritation.
