Hard to know: If only on one side, then the problem is usually due to compression of blood vessels or nerves. In rare cases, this could be related to blood clot in the arm or inflammatory disease affecting nerves or blood vessels (vasculitis, mononeuritis multiplex, or others). An examination is required to further differentiate potential causes.
