A member asked:

Hi, had a flu and it is better but it hurts to swallow, the back of my tongue is painful constantly and so are my ears with no redness?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

May be inflamed: "Flu" is the condition caused by the influenza virus with symptoms of runny nose, fever, sore throat and cough. However, lay people tend to call the ailment that causes vomiting and diarrhea flu also. If you had vomiting with your bout of flu, it would not be unusual to have persistent inflammation in the esophagus, back of throat and tongue with referred pain to the ears for a couple of days.
