No, not effective: Nitrofurantoin (Macrobid®) is not effective against BV. (To my knowledge, it hasn't been studied, but it's entirely the wrong kind of antibiotic and I'm sure it wouldn't work and might make it worse or increase recurrence risk.)The antibiotics of choice for BV are metronidazole (Flagyl® and generics) or tinidazole (Tindamax®), less frequently clindamycin (Cleocin® and generics).
