Bacterial vaginosis: You can do nothing and the vaginosis will clear up or you can consult your doctor and he can take a culture and give you a specific antibiotic for the cause.

Check up: Bv usually needs to be treated by prescription antibiotics. If you have frequent recurrences, talk to your doctor about possible ways to balance your pH and keep the vaginal bacteria in better balance. Some people used over the counter products such as rephresh or luvena. Some physicians use vaginal suppositories containing boric acid, but these need to be made by a compounding pharmacist.

Several: Common symptoms of bacterial vaginosis include a thin discharge, which may or may not be irritating. Also a foul or fishy odor, especially after intercourse. Treatment includes either vaginal antibiotic cream or oral medication, also using boric acid suppositories (usually available by prescription and made up in a compounding pharmacy) to lower the vaginal ph.

Can doxyclycine treat a bacterial vaginosis infection ?

Treatment of BV: Bv is usually caused by anaerobic gram negative rods and is usually treated with Metronidazole or clindamycin. Tetracyclines like doxy would not be considered first choice agents. If your doctor thinks you have chlamydia or other infections, it may well be the correct agent. Ask your doctor what your tests and cultures show.

Not likely: Flagyl is the medication of choice due to very good coverage of anaerobes. Ofloxacine does not cover anaerobes as well as Flagyl does.
