May be serious: No big deal if this is only very occasional. But if the stool is persistently white or clay colored it could mean that you have a blockage that is stopping bile from the liver getting into the gut. You need to see a doctor. This could be from a common bile duct stone or chronic pancreatitis, but may be a symptom of pancreatic cancer.
