HPV: Genital warts are caused by a virus called HPV. Certain strains cause warts and others are linked to cervical cancer. It is important to speak with your doctor about when you need to be screened with a pap smear. Your doctor can also describe to you possible treatments for the genital warts. In order to protect yourself from STDs, it is always important to use barrier contraception, i.e. condoms.
