Prenatals: Great question. Pre natals will not really help hormonal issues. The better alternatives are birth control pills OCPs. These have estrogen and progesterone in it that help regulate the intensity of your periods, shrink the duration of PMS symptoms, regulate mood, and lighter bleeding. Pre-natals usually have lots of frolic acid in it for neural tube/spinal cord development in the fetus

Mainly for pregnancy: to protect the neural tube of the baby to make Mom & Baby strong. This might still be helpful during post partum while nursing. However, normally a woman's formula for Mom is good. Breast milk is best for baby to provide all the nutrients, fats, and amino acids necessary for the baby's growth and development.
