Naproxen: You could try naproxen 220 mg by mouth every 4 hours for pain relief, The commercial name is Aleve. But if the pain is getting worse and naproxen is not helping you should go to your doctor or dentist.

See OFP specialist: TMJ disorders are serious medical problems related to the joint and does not go away on its own. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or NSAIDs gives temporary relief of pain but does not address the cause. The most important thing however is to have your condition diagnosed properly by a qualified professional, such as Orofacial Pain specialist.

Need Evaluation: As you have mentioned a chipped jaw bone and severe jaw pain from your TMJ, I would recommend you see an oral surgeon for a more detailed exam and x-rays. Knowing where the jaw bone is chipped, what caused it, and if the TMJ pain is related to the event that caused the chipped jaw bone would help in diagnosing the problem and any recommendation for treatment.

Oral surgeon: I assume by "chipped jaw bone" you have a severe TMJ problem with some bone loss to due degenerative joint disease. First step, see oral surgeon for exam. He/she may refer you to orofacial-TMJ expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask for referral.
