For what reason might it be that opiates cause itching and headaches?

Side effects: Opiates cause a type of cell, called a mast cell to release histamine which causes the skin to itch and is treated with anti-histamines such as vistaril (rx) or Benadryl (diphenhydramine) (otc). As for the headaches this must be a side effect that you get as many times we treat headaches with opiates. Withdrawal from opiates can cause headaches as well as other signs and symptoms.

Histamine: Opiates can cause itching or headaches by releasing histamine into the system. These can vary in severity and duration depending on the opiate being used and the individual taking them.
