Myofascitis: When flexing your neck you are stretching the fasciae covering the upper/mid trapezius muscles. These muscles connect to the mid thoracic spine. This is analogous to pulling on the top part of a hand-made sweater and seeing the strain at a lower part of the sweater. This is happening in your upper back muscles. The easiest treatment is a hot bath with epsom salt.
