Common for muscle strain in neck to last many weeks (occasionally even months) - worse in neck because you really can’t stop turning it all day (and night). NSAIDs (naproxen, ibuprofen) will help, won’t cure. Also local moist warmth. If tingling, weakness or numbness down 1 or both arms, to ER now. Rare but serious bone fracture not impossible.

Although could be strain/ sprain, might be sign of underlying bone or disc issue, even brachial plexus stretch. Stop the sports, consider physical therapy, and give it time!
