Arteries: Nicotine causes increased peripheral vascular resistance, due to constriction of the arteries (i.e. the blood vessels that supply oxygenated blood throughout the body). There are other, safer, treatment options for POTS than nicotine. An appointment should be made with your PCP or cardiologist, to discuss those treatments as well as tobacco cessation, if you haven't already done so.
