ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON: Sometimes snapping or clicking of a joint is from ligamental origin, and since you have injured your ankle the ligament may have been sprained or partia ly torn especially if there was significant swelling and discoloration. If your ankle is giving you chronic problems, have an evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon to avoid long term chronic ankle damage.

Tendinitis: Likely this is due to a tendinitis of the tendons in front of the ankle. You should have this evaluated to make sure it is not a joint problem.
