Oral hygiene: Halitosis or bad breath can have a multitude of causes: food and plaque stuck on or between teeth, decaying teeth, gum disease (gingivitis) or advanced gum disease (periodontitis), and a dirty tongue. Start at home with impeccable oral hygiene including brushing thoroughly 2-3 times per day, flossing daily, brushing or scraping the tongue, and using listerine rinse. Also see the dentist.

Bad Breath Causes: The most common causes of bad breath are cavities, gum disease, or both. Upper respiratory infections, and gut problems are also possible causes of bad breath. Make an appointment with your dentist to rule out cavities, gum disease and or xerostomia (dry mouth). If your mouth is healthy, make an appointment with your physician.
