Get tested: Pregnant women should be tested for gestational diabetes between 24-28 weeks gestation. Untreated gestational diabetes is a cause of stillbirth. This is the ultimate reason why testing is done. Other complications include excessive fetal growth, polyhydramnios, increase risk of c section and vaginal tearing, shoulder dystocia and other complications. Testing avoids these risks
