A member asked:

Is it possible to not have a period for up to a year after stopping depo provera (medroxyprogesterone)? basically, how long until it is completely out of your system?

18 months: however, I would discuss this with your FP or Gyn. They might be able to give you some input on whether they beilieve this is ok in your particular situation.

Yes it is possible: It is not easy to predict or tell "how long until depo-provera is completely out of your system". On average, most women who used to have a regular cycle will resume their regular cycles within 3 to 9 months after stopping their injections. A few take longer. Note that "secondary amenorrhea" can occur without previous use of depo-provera and requires evaluation and treatment by a reproductive doc
