Croup: is a viral illness (laryngotracheobronchitis) most often caused by parainfluenza. Several of those viruses can also cause diarrhea. An alternate explanation would be that antibiotics given to treat a chronic cough due to walking pneumonia may cause diarrhea as a side effect.

Pertussis should be considered and viral testing is available. Rule out COVID 19, rest and self isolate. Avoid dairy products until well and stay well hydrated. Drink fluids, take a probiotic, yogurt and bananas. It is not uncommon to have both symptoms, but chronic diarrhea and cough requires additional testing. Watch for shortness of breath, fever. and wheezing.
