Calories: Weight gain in pregnancy is mainly determined by the amount of calories consumed minus the calories burned off. If you gained a lot then you likely ate more than usual. Pregnant women retain extra water and fluid which contributes to some degree. Plus you have the weight of the baby to calculate in as well.
