Neurologist?: Had to read about this, but seems to usually be related to atlantoaxial joint problems or myelopathy affecting the lingual afferent nerve fibers within the hypoglossal nerve. Would start by seeing neurologist to see if nerve fiber testing can be done to confirm. Corticosteroid injections seem to offer at least partial relief in some cases. Surgery may also be an option.
