Shingles?: Hard to know without seeing the rash and knowing more about your history. The description is consistent with shingles. Mimicking diagnoses would include other skin infections (bacterial or viral), syphilis (yours is an atypical rash, but testing is not unreasonable), peripheral nerve problem, contact sensitivity and rarely lymphangioma circumscriptum.
