Depends: I don't know how old is your husband. If he is above 60 and has history of osteoporosis then a compression fracture should be considered. If he young, then it could have triggered a lumbar sprain or disc bulge. Best bet is to get some xray to start off and based on results consider conervative treatment of therapy and meds if no fractures. If still persistent pain after this, consider mri.
