Limited options: If you are referring to an active cold sore, medications like Valtrex (valacyclovir) can speed healing a little bit, but it mostly needs just time. If you are talking about a true scar it will become less noticeable in time, but scars can really only be revised, not eliminated. Talk with a plastic surgeon about your management options.

Plastic surgery?: This depends on what you mean by "scar" and how long you have had it. If a few weeks or less since the outbreak, you can expect the mark or discoloration to fade over a few months. After that, plastic surgery might be something to consider. However, cold sores typically recur, often in the same spot, in which case surgery may not help. Still, consult with a plastic surgeon and take it from there.
